John Snow
Pubs - London W1F9QJ
The John Snow pub on Broadwick Street is not named for the Game of Thrones character or news anchor, but for Dr. John Snow, the physician who proved cholera spreads through contaminated water. In 1854, Snow mapped cholera cases in the neighborhood and found clusters around one Broad Street pump. By disabling it, he stopped the local outbreak and eventually saved countless lives, though his theories were initially met with skepticism. Today a replica pump stands outside the pub, while inside, the cozy bar features dark woodwork and beers from Samuel Smith's brewery. The spacious upstairs area provides a change of scene.
The downstairs bar is partitioned into three drinking areas, linked via charmingly diminutive openings. There’s more room, and a different atmosphere, upstairs.
